Niels Clausen was born near Vejle, Denmark on April 26, 1851 and passed away in Orlando, Florida on October 24, 1925. Niels came to the United States at the age of 19, accepted the Seventh-day Adventist message and attend Battle Creek College from 1874 to 1877. He was ordained in 1879. On November 4, 1880, he was married to Mary Frances Welch of Battle Creek, Michigan. Elder James White performed the ceremony and Uriah Smith served as witness.
In 1883 Niels was asked by the General Conference to edit the Danish-Norwegian paper, which he did until 1886 when he was sent to Christiania (now Oslo) Norway to work as editor and publisher there. Niels worked for 20 years in Norway and Denmark before returning to the United States.
The collection consists primarily of photographs of Niels Clausen and family, but also several photographs of Norwegian Seventh-day Adventist camp-meetings and group photos of what may be the Adventist workers in the Norwegian and Danish ministry and publishing ventures. Also included are items such as the marriage certificate for Niels and Mary Frances, sheet music, calling cards, and the chart shown here, used in Niels' work.
